Shatter Me - Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I decided on a whim last night to check out an e-book and read.
And holy cow, it felt so good.
I am going to try so hard for the new year to keep reading, and to keep writing about them.
Reading is one of the things I miss most about life before being a full time college student with four demanding jobs. (My part time college student work study job afforded me more than enough time to read.)

This book is a trilogy, with two short novellas that take place in between each of the main books.

That being said. This book. THIS. BOOK. OMG. Oh my lordy. Tahereh Mafi is amazing.
There are no words for Tahereh Mafi's genius with a pen probably with a keyboard.
I am insanely moved by the imagery that her words provoke.
At some points the way the words flowed were just too much and I had to skim. The intense feeling that her diction induces is unbelievable.
I cannot wait to start reading the next book when I'm done writing this.
This book was so action packed that I didn't want to get caught up in the next one and jumble them up.
This book like many of my favorites takes place in the future, we have decimated the planet, (similarly to the condition of the Earth in The Hunger Games books.)
And a new governing body has taken over all aspects of everyday life, if there is something or someone that will benefit them, they acquire it.

Short synopsis:

Juliette Ferrars has a gift curse. Her touch is fatal.
The Reestablishment has been keeping her prisoner for over a year.
Until one day they give her a cellmate.
And her cellmate turns out to be.... I don't think I can ruin this for you.
I am having a hard time rewriting something that is just so perfectly written.

You really need to read this book, it is about power, perseverance, finding yourself, trust, loyalty, standing strong for what you believe in, believing in yourself, and so much more.
Everything that makes up incredible stories.
I hate writing what happens at the ends of books because while I don't have any issues with spoilers (at least in books and movies. But don't even think about telling what you're getting me for Christmas or my birthday), I understand that many people can't find the thrill in reading if they already know what's going to happen. To me it just makes me turn the pages faster, I just can't wait to get to the part someone told me about.

Read A-likes:

The Hunger Games Trilogy - Suzanne Collins
Divergent Trilogy - Veronica Roth
(It seems cheesy to say, but I think if it's not already this series is the next THG/Divergent. Our society just seems to love those books about what it'll be like when we've used up all the natural resources. I'll be asking Darrell about the popularity of this series.)

Typography posters are coming!!

My typography poster posts are all drafted and ready to go!
I must preface their posting by saying:

I love dafont.com. I am not affiliated with them, but I've been visiting the website for as long as I can remember.
I enjoy it's ease of use, the interface, the simplicity and unsketchyness of its download buttons, basically everything about it.

Since learning from peers and teachers about other sites that are equally as sketch-free I have branched out, but you will notice the majority of my fonts come from dafont.com.

Some of them are also available on other sites, I just prefer dafont.

Beside each font is its usage rights and a link to its location.

These usage rights range:
Personal use- don't use it if it's going to make you money.
Commercial use- you can use it to make money.
100% free- you can use it to make money.
Public domain- you probably shouldn't make money, but you can use, bundle, modify, and distribute.

[I just found this draft] --> It's almost Summer 2014

********************************************
Holy Moses.
I didn't post at all this school year.
I did not plan that.
My first year at Frostburg has been crazy amazing.
I'm about to move out and I still catch myself thinking holy cow "I'm actually HERE!"
It still blows my mind on a regular basis.
I have read not one book for fun since I moved here.
I racked up $50 in library fees, I was so sure I'd be able to read and post and do school work.
I was overly ambitious.
But as soon as I finish the last of my school work I'll be back at this.
Reviewing, updating lists. READING!
I've missed it so much, but I've had to ignore it.
I've also taken up watching wayyyyyy to much tv.
*******************************************

^^^^^ I wrote this in the spring, and never posted it.
It does explain some of my absence.
I hope that maybe I can turn over a new leaf with Christmas break coming up quickly.
The end of the semester is rough, but with only four more weeks to go, I have confidence I can contribute to this blog more.
I have half a dozen drafts started, I'll be rereading those books and starting there.
I will also probably be adding in a little bit more about my hobbies, and school work.
I recently opened an Etsy shop and think that posting about it could help my traffic.
We shall see.

Random Graphic Design Post. AWK.

So it's been well over a year since I posted.
And embarrassingly.... well over a year since I picked up a book.

College. Is. Insane.

As an art student, I have no free time.
I work, and go to class, and do homework.
I don't even have time to think about missing books.

I think I mentioned earlier, I am a Graphic Design student.
Since I came to school, I also added a Ceramics focus which takes up even more of my time.

For my advanced graphics class I produced a series of 6 aggregated typography posters.
My classmates loved them, and as a part of another project, and at my classmates' urgent requests I need to post them to the internets!!

Instead of starting a whole new blog for crafting, I thought I would just use the platform I already have, to get my future pins out into the Pinterest world.

Following this post will be six separate posts that each have a infographic full of fonts and a explanation of each, including usage rights and where you can find each font.
